On my way for a PET CT, I was listening to Pastor Steven’s podcast, “There’s A Hole In Your Story.” I learned what to respond when asked, “How can a good God allow you to have cancer?”
Since starting my current treatment protocol, I had doctors telling me that God must have favored me when recovering from sepsis/bacteremia and having no complication from an overdue ureteral stent replacement. I quietly asked myself, “If God really favors me, how can He allow me to have cancer in the first place?”
Today, I learned to simply answer, “This is my story.” I may not have control over the situations in my story, but I have control on my response and more importantly, on how I tell my story. I can either tell my story with bitterness, self-pity, and despair, or with grace, hope, and faith that I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living and that He, who began a good work in me, will carry it on to completion.
